Art for the New Year

Painting outside can be a challenge, a hassle, or an adventure. The sun may not cooperate. Clouds may roll in. But finding a scene to paint is only limited to your imagination!

I enjoy painting en plein air because you never know what is going to happen (wind, rain, clouds, or that perfect ray of light).

During the cold months it is time to start thinking about what plein air competitions will be happening in the spring, summer, and fall.

A new competition was started last year by the Delaplaine Arts folks in Frederick, MD. Easels in Frederick is in its second year and coming up in June 2012. But if you want to compete, you have to submit your application before the end of January! Submit your paintings soon. You never know, you may be one of this year's competition painters! If not, there will be a spectacular painting workshop going on at the same time.

For more information, check out the Delaplaine Art Website.
